Alyssa Allen, aka Papi, is from Los Angeles. She began her dance training studying
contemporary under Jessie Riley at Westside Dance Project and later studied Vaganova technique at Dmtri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy. During this time, she also studied under Jim Kolb at The Orange County School of the Arts, a performing arts high school. Alyssa graduated in May 2019 from the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, as part of the inaugural class, where she earned her BFA. There she studied under William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, Jermaine Spivey, and performed works by choreographers Crystal Pite, Alejandro Cerrudo, and Jiří Kylián, to name a few.
While maintaining a relationship with the commercial industry, through choreographers like Andrew Winghart, Alyssa has worked with Julia Stone, Billie Eilish, and Little Big Town. This past summer, she attended two intensives Springboard Danse Montréal, and Orsolina28 in Italy. She then traveled to Bosnia to perform at the Music & More SummerFest under the direction of Jackie Kopcsak. After which she traveled to Austin, Texas to work with Brett Ishida on a new collaborative show. As of November 2019, Alyssa joined Hubbard Street Dance Chicago as a company member for their 2019-2020 season. She is currently back home in Los Angeles during the quarantine, where she is making the best of this new virtual realm and finding out how dance can communicate virtually.
